Pain Cream FRAUD ALERT

1/1/2017

Suspicious telemarketing calls are using the American Chronic Pain Association and BlueCross/Blue Shield in a scam for a pain cream.

The ACPA does not:

• Share personal information, including contact information, about any participant in our programs with third parties.
• Ask members to provide personal insurance, banking, or other sensitive information.
• Endorse or promote any specific medication, intervention, or treatment for pain management.

If you are contacted by anyone purporting to represent the ACPA, you can call our toll-free number (800- 533-3231) to confirm the validity of the call.  If the call is fraudulent, please do the following:

• File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov or call (202) 326-2222. If you are outside the U.S., file a complaint at econsumer.gov

• Report scams to your state Attorney General.

Since 1980, the ACPA has provided education and taught coping skills to individuals living with pain and to promote awareness of chronic pain among all segments of society.  We have worked hard to deserve your trust and are sorry that circumstances outside of our control may have caused distress to those we seek to serve.

We would also encourage you to register your with the National Do Not Call Registry by calling the toll free line at 1-888-382-1222 or filing directly online at www.donotcall.gov. When filing your complaint, you must have the date the call was received and either the name or the phone number of the telemarketing company.

Development of this new ACPA web site was made possible through an unrestricted educational grant from Medtronic Foundation and Purdue Pharma.

Medtronic Foundation and Purdue have no influence on the editorial content of the site. Ongoing funding also comes from memberships/donations from a range of individual contributors.
